There was no joy at Parsons...
This article about an NBC-Weinstein scuffle reminded me that I'd been meaning to ask you, the reading public, what you've thought of Project Runway this season. Boots and I have jumped on the international circuit to find our Project Runway joy. (I hope to do cases in comparative Runway as an extended entry at some point. We've skipped the Fillipino one, since we figured we probably couldn't understand it.)
In any case, you might have figured out that we're not that into it. But we're watching anyway. I'll tell you right now, though, if Pushing Daisies is on opposite PR, there will be no hesitation.
What do you think is wrong with Project Runway this season? (I've added a Vizu poll here-- RSS/Tumblr readers may not see it, so please come on down to the actual page to vote and let me know if it works.)
- It's the timing: This Project Runway, hot on the heels of the last one, hasn't left us with enough time to really yearn for fashion, snark, and Michael Kors' outlandish similes.
- It's the challenges: After four seasons, all the good challenge ideas are used up. Astrological sign? Really? Is that the best you can do?
- It's the outfits: The challenges are fine, but the results fail to deliver. The contestants have figured out the formula for playing it safe and getting as far as possible, so we are not treated to wonderfully high highs and terribly low lows.
- It's the contestants: Who am I supposed to be rooting for? Who is likeable? Who is even entertaining?
- It's Kenley: That woman sucks all the joy out of a room. Even hating her brings me no joy.
- It's Tim Gunn: After Guide to Style it's impossible to feel for him as benevolent father figure. All of Tim's amusing affectation, which were once novel and entertaining, are beginning to grate on my nerves.

LOL---I just replied to your comment with a mention about Kenley! haha!\
I still really enjoy this season, but I have to agree with a bunch of things you mentioned. (and will take the poll after I finish here). Tim Gunn--is almost getting to be a caricature of himself. He seems more effeminate and is a little bit annoying...but not enough to bother me that much (like say, the difference between Paula Abdul on Season one versus the last few years of AI)
Kenley must be stopped.
The challenges---yep...lamer. The Zodiac one was the one that tipped it off to me too, or I should say maybe put the nail in the coffin. It's almost reminding me of the season of Survivor when they first made it men vs. women, and it was down to one man and like 6 women and the guy won. That was the worst season ever, it was so stale, the challenges were all re-treads and it just left me underwhelmed. Apparently I wasn't the only one who thought it was lame because they came back the next season with a lot of fresh ideas (and better contestants) without really changing anything too drasically.
The timing I didn't think was so bad, but guess what---the next one is coming I think in November when they move over to the other network (omg please tell me I am wrong in thinking it's Lifetime?!), talk about too much of a good thing.
The outfits haven't been too bad but really I would agree that overall it's been a bit disappointing. Of course after little Christian, it's kind of hard to live up to such fierceness. I like everyone left except for Kenley. If she makes it to the final 3 I'll make Werner Herzog eat my shoe.
pleez to delete the above post.
The zodiac challenge was a kicker for me, too, but mostly because I was comparing it to the challenge in PR:A where one of the contestants did get to come back. There was no reward at all for the booted contestant, and no motivation to be anything more than an albatross. Plus, they kicked off two people? It seems like they also knew that no one was developing into a likable character and felt compelled to pick up the pace.
LOL--well I saw the link and completely ignored it! ooops. I thought it was a done deal, and was just too anxious to start yammering about PR and Kenley. ha!
Yeah, on the zodiac challenge, I was thinking...what is the incentive of the already booted contestant? I'd not be too concerned unless I really liked my partner and wanted them to win. But then again, i guess that makes it a real challenge.
But did I read your post right, there's a Filipino Project Runway? Why didn't I know this? I'm going to have track it down and get caught up...
that said, I still wish Tim Gunn was President. or Emperor of the Galaxy
Thanks for voting, I'm determined to get to the bottom of this!
Last season did have one of the top Tim moments of all time, though, where Tim accidentally got caught in a double entendre... Something about a late night... anyway, I loved it. He's still helpful and constructive, but I no longer want to make gay man babies with him... or whatever.
As far as Tim Gunn goes, he seems to float in and out without a whole lot of genuine interaction. I like him, but wish that they would show more of his constructive criticism rather than the short, "talk to me" sound bytes.
And Kenly.... whiner!
