That made me feel a little better.
This song popped up on shuffle yesterday. It's one of my favorite CAKE tunes of all time, mostly because I think it really hits the nail on the head as far as being a song about English majors.
While I don't think I can speak for all English majors everywhere, Boots and I have a very serious tendency to see signs and portents. After years of being trained to find hidden meanings and symbols in any sort of narrative act, each mistake, bit of bad luck, or occasional random occurence can take on epic meaning.
Sure, most of the time, we live with our brains instead of our hearts, and are able to put it aside in a little box reserved for our other meaningless flights of fancy, but every now and then we're so overwrought that we really take something like this to heart.
Sometimes, though, all it takes is seeing those birds' last second curve for flight, and it all seems better.
