From the get-go, I wasn't entirely happy with the mechanism that we came up for playing this here caption game, and so I have taken the game over to Tumblr, where I think the posting mechanics are better suited to playing a more freestyle game.

Ross and Six already have Tumblrs, so I think I'm going to try to talk them into doing a "beta" run of the game, then I'll probably check back in here and give a more detailed run-down of how it all works. If you're an early adopter sort, you can go to the Caption Booth page and join up.

Caption Booth thoughts

Item 1: Yod, did you finish your caption? I noticed you said you were taking one of the photos, but I never saw the results.

Item 2: Overall, I'm not happy with how the Vox interface presents the options, the results, or the tallying. I am actually considering what would be involved in making a site to run this game and mail the results to some Vox account, so we could all still keep tabs. That would be pretty fun.

Item 3: I'm going to keep the photos in play for a while longer, until at least a couple other photos get captions. Don't worry about it, I actually mean that I want to write one or two more.

Item 4: No, I really do want to know which of these options are the first thing to pop into your head when someone says RPG.

Caption Booth - Week 1

After much ado, and even more procrastination, I am proud to finally announce the launch of the Caption Booth. This week, we owe a special thanks to Ross who suggested about half of this week's photos. I didn't use all of them, mostly because I'm fickle. I hope you don't mind.

Photos are provided without context or attribution until they are used in play and/or I decide to retire them from competition. I mean no disrespect from this, I just don't want to shape your imaginations for you by explaining where I found these.

How to play: Pick out a photo and write a "caption" for it. (I suggest using the Vox This link, but feel free to copy a photo into your Vox if you'd rather do it that way.) Caption is in quotes because, really, I think we're aiming for something short, but not as short as most captions. As a rough guess, I'm thinking somewhere between 50-200 words. Once someone writes a caption for a photo, it is out of play for the week. (But for the sake of argument, feel free to comment on a photo if someone beat you to a caption you were dying to write. We may re-enter photos into later competitions, maybe as a "best of" special competition or something.) Put "Caption Booth" in your subject and tags.

Limited edition swag rules: In the hopes of publicizing the Caption Booth, the person with the most favorites will receive whatever swag I can dig up from my personal reserves of useless crap or the local dollar store. You can favorite every entry if you want, but that's not going to get anyone a prize.
